Celebrating 5 years of shooting analog, "High Desert Slow Time" is a collection of beautiful, full-color photographs taken throughout the deserts of the southwest. The book explores the themes of leaving your trace on the land, but also being marked by your surroundings.
Many years ago, I found myself living in a landscape that I had never considered beautiful. The little vegetation that managed to survive the wind and lack of moisture was homely, the dirt seemed to lack any nutrient or color, the mountains were covered in scrub instead of beautiful, tall trees, and wildlife was virtually non-existent.
Despite my best intentions, I gradually had a change of heart. The more time I spent walking the dirt hills, climbing sandstone boulders, and navigating the sage-covered valley floors, the more I understood the beauty hidden beneath the rough exterior that the desert presented. I found myself connected to my arid surroundings in a strange, almost spiritual way. The desert had become part of me.

Each copy of the book is made and assembled by hand. Images are printed onto a coated glossy paper, then folded, hand-sewn, and bound together using traditional methods. Every book is unique, and may differ slightly from the next. The 300 gsm cover is cut and taped by hand, and the red "Rain God" image is inked and pressed by a hand-carved stamp. The book is 72 pages in length.
